The Seriousness of Pink
December 2018
The hazy, soft, diffused and richly colored quality of light creates a dreamlike aura in which we felt we could express ourselves within. Although draped and encapsulated within a dreamscape, the weight of realities existing outside of the pink aura are not neglected. We decided to create a collaborative body of work together to serve both as an act of support for each other, and to express the irreplaceable bond we feel a vulnerable friendship can create. We chose shades of pink because it was a color that we all subconsciously connected with. However, over time it became a color which represented something to us that we were told to shed off as young girls, whether that was because we lived in a large family of boys, or simply that it was time to grow up. The butterflies, rainbows, and sparkles often exist as highly cliched. We see this project as a revivification of an honesty and weight that exists within them.
